Program Coordinator Position

 Do you like working with children and families? Are you seeking part-time work with a flexible schedule? The Canadian Society for Information Children, a charitable non-profit society, is seeking a part-time program coordinator who would manage and participate in community parenting programs including a parent helpline, parenting workshops, and parent coaching sessions and would work closely with other community agencies.

Our ideal candidate holds a social science degree, is knowledgeable about child development and experienced in parenting work, and preferably has at least three years experience in management, or an equivalent combination of the above.

We are offering a flexible schedule of approximately 22 hours per week at $27-$30/hr. (depending on qualifications).

Job Title: Program Coordinator
Job Purpose:
The Program Coordinator maintains and supports the organization's primary objective of
providing practical parenting information and support to families with young children. The
Coordinator is responsible for the overall coordination and implementation of service by
promoting, developing, and evaluating Information Children’s programs and practices. The
Coordinator reports directly to the Board of Directors.
Job Duties:
 Oversees daily operations and coordinates program activities with other staff; prioritizes and
delegates work activities.
 Participates in service delivery, facilitation of workshops, individual presentations, Helpline
counselling, parent coaching, and other related activities.
 Serves as a key liaison with community, and government agencies, particularly in relation to
their advisory and financial support of Information Children.
 Provides information and data to the Board for applications for funding of new or continuous
projects and other fundraising activities.
 Maintains agency database and prepares pertinent statistical reports on the society’s
deliverables for projects and grants, which includes progress reports, or other special reports
for the Board and relevant partner agencies as required.
 Manages expenditures in accordance with budget allocations, and makes resource
recommendations to the Board of Directors. Works in collaboration with the Board Treasurer
to support grant reports and to ensure fiscal management is in place.
 Oversees communication, distribution and the development of pamphlets, brochures, flyers;
participates in the development of new pamphlets to ensure alignment to best practice; and
coordinates printing and distribution of pamphlets.
 Maintains website including updating information, trouble shooting.
 Works in collaboration with the Board to recruit and retain staff.

 Coordinates, recruits new members and oversees Society’s memberships.
 Designs, develops and recommends to the Board new programs, projects and activities in
accordance with the organization’s goals and objectives.
 Communicates with, consults and supports staff in regard to their practice; provides clinical
consultation and performance evaluation.
 Attends Board meetings, provides written Coordinator reports to the board on programs
being delivered and considered and provides statistics for all services including Helpline,
updates, funding, and other information as required. Coordinates with staff in the booking and scheduling of the Agency’s services, projects,
programs and/or events.
 Represents Agency in public relations/liaison capacity on matters relating to the Agency’s
services and projects.
 Develops and maintains sound partnerships with community and maintains a good working
relationship with SFU including child care center and elementary school

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
 Experience and knowledge of Family and Child Development, and issues related to
Parenting and Child Rearing
 Experience working in a community based setting
 Knowledge of Brief Solution-Focussed Counselling
 Knowledge of Family Systems Theory
 Demonstrated Program Management ability, including budgeting and resource
allocation, program development and working with a Board of Directors.
 Demonstrated skill in both verbal and written communication
 Demonstrated organizational ability to plan, coordinate and prioritize work and
activities of self and others and to complete work in a timely way.
 Demonstrated skill in fostering teamwork and maintaining a healthy work environment
 Demonstrated ability to facilitate parenting workshops, make presentations to groups,
provide counselling and support through the Helpline and Parent Coaching
 Basic knowledge and working ability with Microsoft Office and web maintenance

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a Social Science Field (such as Social Work, Family Studies, Child
Development, Psychology, Nursing) and at least three years of program management/supervisory
experience, and experience in parenting; or any equivalent combination of experience and/or
education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in a Social Science field (such as Social Work, Counselling Psychology), with at least two years program management/supervisory experience and experience in parenting; or, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
